A documentary by Lina Vdovîi undRadu Ciorniciuc| 90min | 2023 | D
A journalist estranged from her father for abusing her as a child discovers that he’s become a victim of work exploitation. When she agrees to help him expose the injustice, will she also be able to forgive him?
"My most painful memory from my childhood is when my father pushed my mother into the balcony door and heavy pieces of glass fell on her shoulder, covering her whole tiny body in blood. I grabbed my younger sister’s hand and we hid in our room. We were afraid he would beat us with his black leather belt, as he did so many times before.
I stopped answering his calls and we didn’t communicate for years, but after a painful divorce, my ex-husband told me that he left me because I was mean, manipulative, controlling and abusive. After praying my whole childhood to not be a victim like my mother, I turned out an abuser, just like my father.
TATA is a personal documentary about my family confronting violence from past to our present. Filmed in Moldova, Romania and Italy, it explores how my father, and I are trying to break a cycle of violence that has existed in our home and our culture for generations."
