Documentary series by Wilm Huygen und Sven Ilgner
In the spirit of the big boys from Nick Hornby's best books, we follow a men's 40 tennis team from the amateur district class through their season in four episodes. And in the process, we get to know a generation of men with all their problems, born around 1980. An honest and warm-hearted look into the locker room of these cohorts - exciting for men and for their wives. We observe and accompany eight very different early- and mid-forties in pre-season preparation, tournaments and club life. Sportingly, it's about nothing, but emotionally it's about EVERYTHING - the sport that captivated the nation in the protagonists' youth is for them a nostalgic compensation for voids in their lives. In keeping with the spirit of the times, the nostalgic feelings in society in 2022. We experience the desire for new sporting challenges after finding oneself professionally and familiarly, the hunger for a new sense of achievement and the fight against physical decay, which is now slowly but surely beginning.
